DLF Women's Indian Open 2008
Friday 28 March, 2008

PHATLUM PORNANONG of Thailand clinched her second title inside 40 days when she won the USD120,000 DLF Women's Indian Open presented by GENPACT at the DLF Golf & Country Club.

This even will also be long remembered for its holes-in-one as all three rounds saw a hole-in-one achiever. In the opening round SHIH, HUEI-JU hit an ace, in the second round it was CHEN, KUAN-PEI and it was Japan's HASEGAWA, SATOKO who with a 5-iron aced the 11th hole today. The trio would share the USD1,300 that was put up for the hole-in-one.

However, it was the 19-year-old Pornanong, virtually a passive character who showed the strong gallery following what she is capable of. She finished with a par game for a three-round total of 212 to win by four strokes from joint second place winners WEI, YUN JYE of Chinese Taipei and Japan's SAKURAI, YUKI who closed their accounts with 71 and 73 respectively.

Wei Yun-Jye said, "I played well. I am happy with my game. The course is very good for my play."

Sharing fourth spot are China's WANG, CHUN and Korea's NAM, MIN JI. Wang Chun who was tipped to give Pornanong a run for her money after playing to a 3-under 69 in yesterday's round, blew up with a 3-over 75.

Thailand's PHATLUM, PORNANONG shot another round of 2-under 70 for a two round total of 140 to take a two-shot lead in second day's play in the USD120,000 DLF Women's Indian Open presented by GENPACT.

China's WANG, CHUN who shot the day's lowest total of 3-under 69 is in second spot and trails the leader by two shots. From Beijing, Wang Chun gave a good account of herself and felt that she has a good chance to deny Pornanong a back-to-back win.

Japan's SAKURAI, YUKI who is lingering at three strokes off the leader, also positioned herself to lift the silverware when she carded a 2-under 70 for a 36-hole total of 143.

Indonesian amateur JAYA, LIDYA IVANA played 1-over 73. She dropped to share the fourth spot with Chinese Taipei's SHIH, HUEI-JU. The players have a total of 144.

Again there was another player who shot an ace. Chinese Taipei's CHEN, KUAN-PEI scored a hole-in-one at the Par-3, 16th hole with a nine iron.

MEHRA, SMRITI dropped from fourth to fifth spot after finishing another round with a 1-over 73 for a two round-146.
