Australian Andrew Dodt claims Avantha Masters crown

Australia's Andrew Dodt won the first prize of AVANTHA MASTERS 2010 trophy on 14th February 2010.

Dodt's winning total of 14-under-par 274 was enough for him to win his maiden Asian and European Tour title by a single shot ahead of England's Richard Finch who closed with a 66 to take second place on 275.

Japan's Tetsuji Hiratsuka posted a 71 to take a share of fourth place alongside Scotland's David Drysdale and England's Barry Lane and Richard Bland on matching 276.Rahil Gangjee posted a two over 74 in the final round of the Avantha Masters 2010 to grab a share of 14th place with an overall score of nine under 279. Gangjee, the overnight joint leader, was thus the highest-placed Indian as he finished five strokes behind the winner Andrew Dodt of Australia.

  Rahil Gangjee put himself in contention for his first Asian Tour title in six years, grabbing a share of the lead after a flawless three-under 69 in the penultimate round of the tri-sanctioned AVANTHA MASTERS.

Gangjee, whose last Asian Tour triumph came in the Volkswagen Masters-China in 2004, took his three-day total to 11-under 205 for a six-way tie at the top.

Fredrik Andersson Hed (66), Darren Beck (70), Richard Bland (66), Yih-Shin Chan (72), Tetsuji Hiratsuka (70) and Barry lane (71) formed the rest of the leading pack.

For the third successive day, Gangjee found birdies on the seventh and 18th holes besides picking up a shot on the third.

Among other Indians in fray, Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal brought home identical one-under 71s to total six-under 210 and four-under 212 respectively.

Day 2, Friday 12 February 2010
 
Taiwan's Chan Yih-shin placed first place with England's John Parry on 10-under-par at the event which is co-santioned by the Asian and European tours.

Chan was three under through 17 holes of his second round when play was suspended and eventually abandoned due to inclement weather.

Singapore's Lam Chih Bing, who managed to complete his round, added a 68 to his opening 67 to take a share of fourth place alongside Scotland's David Drysdale and Australians Andrew Dodt and Darren Beck on 135 Digvijay Singhl Gaganjeet Bhullar shot three under 69 to be tied 19th along with reigning Indian Open champion C Muniyappa. Jeev Milkha Singh, Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal carded identical scores of even par 72 to be placed tied 57th. Rahil Gagjee was a strong bogey-free round  and playing his back nine first, the Kolkata pro nailed birdies on the 14th, 18th and seventh hole.

 Germany's Marcel Siem squeezed six birdies and an eagle in an eight-under-par 64 to set the pace in the AVANTHA MASTERS first round on  Thursday.

The 29-year-old, hunting his second victory on the European Tour, was one stroke ahead of Chan Yih-shin of Chinese Taipei.

A further two shots adrift on 67 were Singapore's Lam Chih-Bing, Britons Barry Lane and John Parry, Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen, Thai Thaworn Wiratchant, Australian Andrew Dodt and Indian Rahil Gangjee.

 Rahil Gangjee was the best Indian in the field in tied third with a birdie-birdie finish that saw him card a 67 for the day alongwith six others.
