DLF Women's Indian Open (28 March 2008)

Live Score

 Friday 28 March, 2008

PHATLUM PORNANONG of Thailand clinched her second title inside 40 days when she won the USD120,000 DLF Women's Indian Open presented by GENPACT at the DLF Golf & Country Club.

This even will also be long remembered for its holes-in-one as all three rounds saw a hole-in-one achiever. In the opening round SHIH, HUEI-JU hit an ace, in the second round it was CHEN, KUAN-PEI and it was Japan's HASEGAWA, SATOKO who with a 5-iron aced the 11th hole today. The trio would share the USD1,300 that was put up for the hole-in-one.

However, it was the 19-year-old Pornanong, virtually a passive character who showed the strong gallery following what she is capable of. She finished with a par game for a three-round total of 212 to win by four strokes from joint second place winners WEI, YUN JYE of Chinese Taipei and Japan's SAKURAI, YUKI who closed their accounts with 71 and 73 respectively.

Wei Yun-Jye said, "I played well. I am  happy with my game. The course is very good for my play."

Sharing fourth spot are China's WANG, CHUN and Korea's NAM, MIN JI. Wang Chun who was tipped to give Pornanong a run for her money after playing to a 3-under 69 in yesterday's round, blew up with a 3-over 75.

Thursday 27 March, 2008

Thailand's PHATLUM, PORNANONG shot another round of 2-under 70 for a two round total of 140 to take a two-shot lead in second day's play in the USD120,000 DLF Women's Indian Open presented by GENPACT.

China's WANG, CHUN who shot the day's lowest total of 3-under 69 is in second spot and trails the leader by two shots. From Beijing, Wang Chun gave a good account of herself and felt that she has a good chance to deny Pornanong a back-to-back win.

Japan's SAKURAI, YUKI who is lingering at three strokes off the leader, also positioned herself to lift the silverware when she carded a 2-under 70 for a 36-hole total of 143.

Indonesian amateur JAYA, LIDYA IVANA played 1-over 73. She dropped to share the fourth spot with Chinese Taipei's SHIH, HUEI-JU. The players have a total of 144.

Again there was another player who shot an ace. Chinese Taipei's CHEN, KUAN-PEI scored a hole-in-one at the Par-3, 16th hole with a nine iron.

MEHRA, SMRITI dropped from fourth to fifth spot after finishing another round with a 1-over 73 for a two round-146.

JOHNNIE WALKER CLASSIC

JOHNNIE WALKER CLASSIC 2008 (28 March - 02 March 2008) with total Prize Money US$409,743.

Sunday 2nd March 2008

New Zealand’s Mark Brown produced a stunning final nine holes to claim a dream victory in the Johnnie Walker Classic and a second title in a week.

Five  birdies  on  the  back  nine  stunned the  elite  field  as  he romped  home  in 31 for a five-under-par 67 and 18-under-par total of 270 to secure a three-stroke victory  over the Australian pair of Greg Chalmers and Scott Strange and Japan’s Taichiro Kiyota.

Saturday 1st March 2008

Japan’s Taichiro Kiyota pulled off  a miraculous  birdie  on his last hole to snatch the lead after the third round of the US$2.5 million Johnnie Walker Classic on Saturday.

The Asian Tour stalwart produced a thrilling  five-under-par 67  on a sun-baked DLF Golf and Country Club and leads by one stroke from India’s Jyoti Randhawa and Mark Brown of New Zealand.

Randhawa, chasing a home victory which will edge him closer into the world’s top-50 and   a place in  next  month’s US Masters, carded  a  68 while  Brown, winner  of  last week’s   SAIL Open in India, soared high with two stunning eagles for a 64.

The tournament’s big guns, Vijay Singh of Fiji and Australian Adam Scott, failed to fire.

Friday 29th February 2008

India’s  Shiv Kapur  lived  up  to  the  adage “Beware the  sick  golfer”  when  he  fired a sparkling seven-under-par 65 for the joint halfway lead with Australia’s Unho Park in the Johnnie Walker Classic on Friday.

The talented Kapur, the Asian Tour’s rookie of the year in 2005, rose from his sick bed to post a  blemish-free  round  that  included  one eagle and five birdies at a sun-kissed DLF Golf and Country Club.

The smooth-swinging Park, searching for his maiden victory, was equally impressive with an  eight-birdie  round   for  a  66   while  another  Indian,  Jyoti  Randhawa  charged  into contention by matching his young compatriot’s score for third place with Japan’s Taichiro Kiyota.

World number five Adam Scott of Australia stayed within striking reach after grinding out a second  successive  68  to  lie  just two  off the pace in a share of fifth place. Fijian Vijay Singh and 2006 Asian number one  Jeev Milkha Singh  of  India will enter the third round four off the lead.

Thursday 28th February 2008

Shamim Khan of India upstaged some of the biggest names  in  golf to grab a share of the first round lead at the Johnnie Walker Classic on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Khan fired a sparkling five-under-par 67 at  DLF  Golf and Country Club and set up the possibility of becoming the second Indian winner  of a major tournament on home soil in the past month.
